Reuniting Denominations…
The dream began in the best of places: in connection. Pastors of Gloria Dei Lutheran and Palo Christi Presbyterian became friends. Their parishes were only a few miles apart and so the congregations became friends, started sharing ministry, and something new began to flourish…
As Covid-19 came into play, the parishes declined, caring for two properties was no longer sound stewardship, and the communities came to see they needed each other and that they could build a vision rarely seen before.
With over 40,000 Christian denominations in the world today, these two congregations decided that they could find home with one another. Gloria Dei sold their property and Palo Christi welcomed them into their worship home. Now they stand together, a beacon of hope in a divided world, eager to welcome those who are seeking a closeness with Jesus, and joyful about a future that they’ve bravely stepped into.

Gloria Christi is deeply committed to intergenerational family worship, offering a warm space for children, parents, grandparents, and chosen family alike.
Our children’s corner is always open and we don’t shy away from letting kids be kids - we hope that they learn that in this faith tradition, there is room for them to be themselves as they come to know themselves as deeply beloved by God and by this community. Always and no matter what.

The ELCA is the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Phoenix is part of the Grand Canyon Synod led by Bishop Deborah Hutterer. A merger of three Lutheran churches formed the ELCA in 1988. They were The American Lutheran Church, the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches and the Lutheran Church in America. The Presbyterian Church (USA) was established with the 1983 merger of the Presbyterian Church in the United States, whose churches were located in the Southern and border states, with the United Presbyterian Church in the United States of America, whose congregations could be found in every state.

A Federated Church simply means that neither entity is giving up their denominational identity, but are working together to glorify God through Jesus Christ via the unique charism of having chosen to bring the best of both of their denominations together.
